SELF-DEFENSE WORKSHOP
CKM Midwest Reality Based Self Defense will be holding demonstrations — learn to defend yourself in the real world. From their website: ”Our system teaches you simple, no-nonsense techniques that you can use under pressure to save your life–or save someone you love! CKM is a reality-based self-defense system, built on the foundation of Krav Maga—the world famous Israeli Defense System.”
REACH OUT AND READ
The Virginia Gay Hospital Family Medical Clinics will be offering FREE BOOKS to kids 6 months to 5 years as part of their Reach Out and Read program while supplies last. Reach Out and Read is an evidence-based, national nonprofit organization that prepares America’s youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with healthcare providers to provide books and encourage families to read together. The end goal of Reach Out and Read is to prepare all children who enter kindergarten to read, learn, and succeed. The Reach Out and Read model is endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the program has one of the strongest records of research support of any primary care intervention. Learn more about this program on the VGH Health Care Foundation Reach Out and Read web page.
MEMORY SCREENINGS
The Vinton Lutheran Home-Home Health Agency will be on hand to do Memory Screening, and they will be handing out samples of brain exercises, to keep your mind sharp. A memory screening is a simple and safe evaluation tool that checks memory and other thinking skills. It can indicate whether an additional check up by a qualified healthcare professional is needed.
“BE THE CHANGE” DEMO
FITNESS CAN BE FUN! Be The Change Group Fitness will be holding demonstrations that won't be your typical fitness class. Their program allows everyone the opportunity to participate no matter their fitness level. Everybody and all body types are welcome! There is no charge for classes. Instead, participants are encouraged to leave a free will donation. Each month a charity, organization, event, group, or family in our local community is chosen to be the recipient of all the money collected.
