What Is A Mindset Coach? Do I Need One?

What is a mindset coach anyway?

Coaching is about helping people to get from where they are now to where they want to be.

Coaching is about working with people to set and achieve their goals by:

a) Helping them to get clear about what they truly want
b) Reviewing where they are now and what they’ve tried so far
c) Coming up with and discussing options for action
d) Agreeing a plan to make it happen

Where mindset coaching differs, is that in addition to the four steps above, I work with my clients to uncover the beliefs, blocks, behaviors, habits and patterns of thinking that prevent them from living the life or creating the business they desire.

Taking these insights into what makes my client tick, I'm able to use a range of reprogramming techniques to banish those blocks and replace them with ones that serve my client.

By working with mindset in this way, I'm able to help you pave the way for faster results, greater transformation and lasting success.

How is a mindset coach different from a therapist?

Although mindset coaches and therapists occasionally help clients with similar problems, their work is not the same. Here are the main differences between a mindset coach and therapist.

The focus of mindset coaching is one of the main things that distinguishes it from therapy. Mindset coaches identify and describe current problematic behaviors so the client can work to modify them.

Therapists analyze their client’s past as a tool for understanding present behaviors. In other words, therapists focus on “why” certain behavioral patterns occur, and coaches work on “how” to work toward a goal.

Therapy will focus on your thoughts and feelings and how they are informed by your past. Mindset coaching may touch on these concepts as you break down your limiting beliefs and examine your blueprint, but its ultimate focus is always on the present and the future.

When you look at a coaching vs. counseling practice, it’s important to recognize that counseling helps clients explore and understand their subconscious and unconscious mind. It aims to reach a deep understanding of behaviors and patterns with a goal of overall mental health. This is why counseling and therapy can be helpful for issues like depression and anxiety.

The goal of mindset coaching is to help you get “unstuck.” Mindset coaching is about action and results. Mindset coaches measure their client’s success with key performance indicators and specific behavioral outcomes. They’ll help you set SMART goals, provide accountability and celebrate your wins – all on the road to achieving your dreams.

While both mindset coaching and therapy use talk sessions with a trained professional. Many of the similarities in how they are organized end there. Therapy involves more unstructured sessions that are guided by the client as well as the type of therapy.

Mindset coaching sessions are much more structured and focused on actionable strategies and visible growth.

The duration of the services also varies.

Therapy tends to be a long-term commitment – many people go to therapy for years or even their entire lives. The main difference between a mindset coach and therapist is that a mindset coach sets clients up with the process and skills they need to eventually coach themselves. Mindset coaching isn’t meant to be forever. Mindset coaches also do not diagnose the people they work with, while therapists determine illnesses and pathologies so their patients can be clinically treated.

Why do people go to a Mindset Coach?

People will often approach a mindset coach for help when they feel as though they are not achieving what they want in their life.

There’s a common feeling of “there’s got to be more to life than this” or “I’ve tried everything to make my business a success, but nothing’s working” or “there’s something holding me back and I don’t know what it is”

Clients may be in overwhelm, from having too many options as to what to do next, or in procrastination, not knowing how to get started or they may lack the confidence to take action to achieve their goals.

The common link between all mindset coaching clients is that there is a misalignment between what they want at the conscious level and the unconscious patterns, beliefs, behaviors, habits and programs that are running in the background.

On the surface, they are saying “I want X” but underneath, their unconscious mind is doing everything in its power to prevent “X” from happening.

This can present itself in a number of ways. Here are just three:

1. Beliefs
2. Behaviors
3. Emotions

What a mindset coach does is to unlock these unconscious (and sometimes conscious) patterns and then work with their client to shift and remove them. These are then replaced with new ones that help the client to move forwards and achieve his or her goals more quickly and more easily than before.

Will Mindset Coaching work for me?

Mindset Coaching works well when you are open to making positive, permanent changes in your life.
The relationship you have with your Mindset Coach requires honesty, commitment and a willingness to embrace the coaching process.

  • You’ll be asked to think about yourself and your relationships in a new way.

  • You’ll be asked to think about events and situations in a new way.

  • You’ll be asked to change your mind about beliefs that have been holding you back from the success you crave.

  • You’ll be asked to step up and take inspired action to achieve your goals.

  • You’ll be asked to agree to let go of the past and to focus on the future that you desire.

Mindset Coaching is an investment in yourself and the life that you want to create.
